3DS Max VS Cinema 4D
3DS Max VS Cinema 4D
For my second project i made the switch from 3DS Max to Cinema 4D and i noticed some pros and cons for both softwares when i compare them toeach other
Also in Cinmea 4d you can use the direct selection tool, to select more than one polygon etc by just clicking and dragging, this is not the same as the rectangular selection tool but i just find that this improves workflow as you dont have to go through and click every single polygon you need. Theres also the fact that in 3DS max if you use the rectangular selection tool on a group of selected objects it deselts the selected ones and selects the non selected ones whereas in cinema 4D if you just use the rectagular selction tool it selects the deselected polygons and leaves the selected ones alone unless you press crtl which i fine a lot more effective workflow-wise.
the UV mapping in 3DS Max however is much better when compared tothe uv editor in cinema 4d as i find this impossible to use and the fact that 3DS Max shows the full quality texture in the viewport is a lot of help as in cinema 4d i normally have to render the scene to see if my texture is of high enough quality which damages my work flow as sometimes it can take a long time to render out singular images.I also prefer the smoothing in 3DS max as its a lot more subtle and has more options to get it exactly how you would like it.
Overall i prefer the interface for Cinema 4D more as its easy to navigate and nothing is particularly 'hidden' from you per say as it is in 3DS Max allthough I do like how you can edit the amount of saved steps in 3DS Max as that can be a life saver in some cases
I prefer the material editor in Cinema 4D as its just a lot easier to use than the one in 3DS max, there is however a lot more options in 3DS Max to edit your material but for example i was easily able to get a plastic texture in cinema 4d but I really struggled to make on in 3DS Max due to the complexity of the editor.
