Strawberry renders

Image
my strawberry render: Im really quite happy with my strawberry plant although i do wish i started it earlier so i could add more maybe some leaves ora light texture on the seeds. But considering that it is my first model created with 3ds max i couldn't be happy with it and it looks really good when its geolocated so i don't mind the lack of detail much.

Trying an alternative method

Image
To try an dget aorund the issue with having too many verticies in my model i thought that it would be better to just simply use an editing sphere shape with a strawberry texture: This does work, howeve I prefer the look of the more geometry based one even without the smoothing so I plan to geolocate that model instead.

Issues with Importing my Model

Image
When I was importing my model into Google maps i found that part of the model was disappearing because of the amount of verticies so i tried to fix this by 'optimising' the model but sadly this still didn't work and if i applied it any more it made the model lose its strawberry feel.  so instead i found that removing the smoothing from the model fixed the issue so i just went witht hat even if it did reduce the quality of the model. I also completed some size experiments:

3DS Max VS Cinema 4D

Image
3DS Max VS Cinema 4D For my second project i made the switch from 3DS Max to Cinema 4D and i noticed some pros and cons for both softwares when i compare them toeach other   In Cinema 4D i often found moving around the view ports and the selection of the polygons edges nd verticies. this is because in cinema 4d there is the option of pressing alt and then clicking and dragging the mouse to pan around the viewports which i find a lot easier to use when compared to how you move around the view port in 3DS max. Also in Cinmea 4d you can use the direct selection tool, to select more than one polygon etc by just clicking and dragging, this is not the same as the rectangular selection tool but i just find that this improves workflow as you dont have to go through and click every single polygon you need. Theres also the fact that in 3DS max if you use the rectangular selection tool on a group of selected objects it deselts the selected ones and selects the non selected ones whereas in cin...

Renders of my Model

Image
I rendred these out in Cinema 4D. I am so happy about how much i have improved my 3D Modelling skills throughout this course. I am extremely happy with how my model turned out as i had quite  few doubts about how it was going to look throughout my modelling process I feel alot more confident with3D modelling now and may use it as my main source of imagery creation within my design work due to me not being amazing at drawing this is a good way for me to get my ideas out visually.

Designing my 3D model

Image
I began designing my model by just simply drawing some rough sketches of what my character may look like. Just to get to grips with designing a character: I then stated thinking about how the facial features would look so i start drawing out some sketches for the shape of the head, eyes, eyebrows, mouth and nose. This allowed to me to really start eto explore the possibilities of the model. I started with designing the head as this ust felt natural for me and it felt that it was easier for me to design the rest of the model with the possible head design finished. I then sketched out how the full character might look, I used a full fringe for the hairstyle as this is model of myself and thats the hairstyle i have, I used some rather pointy eyes as i felt these looked the coolest however for the actual model i may experiment with different texture maps to see which style suit the shape of the face best. I included a side an back view to make the modelling of my character easier for mysel...

Research and Inspiration

Image
The imagery above are the main inspiration for my model, the images i have chosen will help me in designing the character and will also give me an idea of how to model my character.   Further research i did into the pop vinyl and making 3d characters:    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYIW28Fe_tY This video wasn't much help in the actual modelling area of my project but it taught me a lot about what happens in the world of pop vinyls and it told me how each line is thought of and how the structure of the team change  depending on the project. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn0z9yJkR2s This video helped me understand the process of 3d character modelling/design i my not follow all of these steps but the info helped me understand how it works if i wanted to carry on with character design in the future.

The concept for my Model

Image
The Concept: For my more complex model i have decided to create a model of myself in the sytlized fversion of a chibi/pop vinyl figure, if i have time i will then look at placing my figure in a situation within an album cover i came up with using the song 'plastic way of life' by Glue70 to create the album cover for the form a sense of irony within the album cover as i will be using quite plastic like textures to get the style i want.  Programs I plan on using: For this project i plan on using Cinema 4D to model my figure as i feel more confident navigating the interface and i feel liket aht would help me a lot for a model that can be so complex. I then plan on bringing the Model into 3DS Max to texture and render the model as I believe UV Mapping can be a lot more precise in 3DS Max when compared to Cinema 4D.

Project 2: Idea Generation

Image
Starting Project 2: Idea Generation       To begin project 2 I started off by creating a mindmap of all the ideas I had at that time for this project, I am still not sure what I want to move forward with but these are the ones that I am most interested in: Creating a low detail 'Character' of myself: For this one the character would be cartoon ad unrealistic kind of 'chibi' style approach. I am particularly interested in this one as i feel that there woul dbe a lot of different ways I could approach this idea and the development and experimentation stage of this would be quite long. I could also play around with a varied amount of materials depending on the clothes I want my character to wear.    Recreating an album cover: For this one i would either design an album cover myself or choose one that already exists and make it 3D, I could take the project further and make the cover a hologram and make it come out of the album on a table or even...

Finishing my 3D model and Taking the Idea Further
